‘BUY SEX, BUY RAPE’ CAMPAIGN ENTERS SUPER BOWL XLVI WEEK

Buy Sex, Buy Rape is a sex trafficking prevention campaign to help end the demand of men buying sex in prostitution. Many reports reveal tens of thousands of prostituted girls and women are trafficked every year into the host city of the Super Bowl or other major sporting events such as the World Cup. In fact, prostitution, sexual exploitation, and sex trafficking have reached a point of worldwide crisis. Some shocking statistics:

  1. 1.8 million new children are coerced into the sex trade each year in the world
  2. At least 100,000 and up to 300,000 U.S. domestic youth are trafficked within U.S. borders
  3. Average age of girls entering into prostitution is 12-14 years old

This sex trafficking prevention campaign aims to target men, informing and appealing to their better selves to not buy sex because they are fueling this sex trafficking crisis worldwide. Stop the demand, stop the rape!

CHILD SEX RINGS SPIKE DURING SUPER BOWL WEEK

DALLAS (2/1/11)–Texas law enforcement agents will be hunting for a little-known crime during this week’sSuper Bowl festivities in metropolitan Dallas: child sex rings.

Incidents of underage prostitution have spiked during previous Super Bowls, leading to some arrests, says Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

His office, working closely with the FBI, is bringing in at least a dozen extra agents from Austin and other cities to monitor and combat cases of trafficking in underage prostitutes during Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas, he says.

“The Super Bowl is the greatest show on Earth, but it also has an ugly underbelly,” Abbott says. “It’s commonly known as the single largest human trafficking incident in the United States.”

PIMPS AND PROSTITUTES EXPECTED WITH SUPER BOWL XLV

DALLAS (1/3/11)–Super Bowl XLV will bring money, athletes and fans to North Texas, but that’s not all, a sex trade expert warns pimps and prostitutes will also come to Dallas-Fort Worth.

“We will have an influx of pimps and traffickers bringing women and children into North Texas,” said Katie Pedigo director of New Friends, New Life which is dedicated to helping young, often abused women escape the sex trade.

Pedigo estimates 15,000 prostitutes will be brought to North Texas for the Super Bowl, many against their will and that many of the women selling their bodies are underage and on the verge of homelessness.

CRACKING DOWN ON THE SUPER BOWL SEX TRADE

DALLAS (2/6/11)–Aside from the occasional wardrobe malfunction and GoDaddy.com’s annual censor-baiting commercials, most people don’t associate the Super Bowl with sex. But this year, religious anti-pornography and anti-trafficking activists are using the nation’s biggest sporting event to take on the sex industry.

Because the hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl has expanded beyond Game Day to an entire week of parties and other festivities, large numbers of pimps and their workers flood into the host city each year. In Miami last year, police estimated that as many as 10,000 prostitutes from outside the area arrived for Super Bowl week.

THE JOHN NEXT DOOR

The men who buy sex are your neighbors and colleagues. A new study reveals how the burgeoning demand for porn and prostitutes is warping personal relationships and endangering women and girls.

Men of all ages, races, religions, and backgrounds do it. Rich men do it, and poor men do it, in forms so varied and ubiquitous that they can be summoned at a moment’s notice.

And yet surprisingly little is known about the age-old practice of buying sex, long assumed to be inevitable. No one even knows what proportion of the male population does it; estimates range from 16 percent to 80 percent. “Ninety-nine percent of the research in this field has been done on prostitutes, and 1 percent has been done on johns,” says Melissa Farley, director of Prostitution Research and Education, a nonprofit organization that is a project of San Francisco Women’s Centers.

In a new study released exclusively to NEWSWEEK, “Comparing Sex Buyers With Men Who Don’t Buy Sex,” Farley provides some startling answers. Although the two groups share many attitudes about women and sex, they differ in significant ways illustrated by two quotes that serve as the report’s subtitle.
